General

  • - Aeris Calendar doesn't reflect the new dates for Daylight Savings Time.
  • Starting in 2007, Daylight Savings Time has new dates. There are two ways that you can update Aeris Calendar to reflect these changes:

Method #1: Replace the events.dat file (and lose any events that you have added/deleted):

    1. Exit Aeris Calendar
    2. Download and save the updated events.dat file (right-click on the link and select "Save Target As")
    3. Overwrite this file where you installed Aeris Calendar (e.g. C:\Program Files\Aeris Calendar)
    4. Restart Aeris Calendar

Method #2: Edit the events.dat file (and preserve any events that you have added/deleted):

    1. Exit Aeris Calendar
    2. Locate and edit the events.dat file in a text editor (e.g. C:\Program Files\Aeris Calendar)
    3. Search for "DST" (no quotes); there will be two entries "DST begins" and "DST ends"
    4. Replace these two lines with the following:
      20030000 1 | DST begins
      10110000 1 | DST ends
    5. Save events.dat
    6. Restart Aeris Calendar

  • - How can I backup my settings?
  • There is a subfolder named "Settings" under the installation folder (see below) that can be backed up. It is important to note that the settings.ini file may contain full path names for certain values. If you restore to a different folder, you may need to adjust these values in the ini file; however, in most cases, this won't be necessary and you will only need to load the correct Theme through the main interface.

If you installed Aeris Calendar to the default folder, backup the following folder:
    C:\Program Files\Aeris Calendar\Settings\

Options

  • - What does the option "Enhanced Image Quality" do?
  • When this option is enabled you may notice a slight improvement in the quality of the background images in Aeris Calendar. Disabling this option will improve performance when the Calendar is drawn. The difference in quality may be subtle in some cases and very noticeable in others -- it depends on the image and your system. You may notice the most difference on edges of objects, when the image is stretched (ie. in higher display resolutions), and the most significant differences can be detected when you use a rendered image such as "Bubbles" or "Stars" as opposed to a photograph. Modern systems may be able to enable this feature without noticing any degradation in performance.

  • - How can I change the font size of the popup text on the calendar? Can I disable popup text on the calendar?
  • You can do this by editing the ini file directly. Here's what you need to do:

    1. Exit Aeris Calendar
    2. Open the ini file in a text editor. By default, the ini file is located here:
      C:\Program Files\Aeris Calendar\Settings\settings.ini
    3. Search for [Calendar]. If it does not exist, add [Calendar] to the top of the file
    4. Insert a new line directly after [Calendar], and type PopupFontSize = 10. You can replace '10' with any of the following values: 0,8,10,12,14,18,24. '0' will disable the popup completely. The other values are the pointsize of the font you want to use. The default value is '10'
    5. Save and exit the ini file
    6. Restart Aeris Calendar

Here is an example of how to change the font size to 12 in settings.ini:

    [Calendar]
    PopupFontSize = 12

Themes

  • - What is a "Theme Pack" and how do I use it?
  • A theme pack is a way to organize various themes and display a theme based on certain conditions. Currently, theme packs only uses the current month as a criteria, but this will be enhanced in future versions (such as event-based themes -- Christmas, New Year's Day, birthdays, etc).

For an example ThemePack file, Download Cal2006.wtp. You can open it in a text editor to see how it works. Copy the ThemePack file into the same directory as the themes:
    c:\Program Files\Aeris Calendar\Themes\
For this particular ThemePack, you will need the twelve themes designated to be used with the Theme Pack.

Weather

  • - Why doesn't the weather update after it has been checked?
  • In most cases, the weather data collected from the server only updates about once an hour. More frequent updates may occur when there is severe weather. For this reason, it is recommended that you set weather checks for about every 30 minutes.
